Content Editor

Content Editor

The Content Editor provides the capability to edit Codes and Comments in-place, without leaving the view you are currently in. When you move the cursor out of the Content Editor, the updates, if any, are recorded. A shortcut menu is available by clicking the right mouse button over the Content Editor.

The Content Editor also includes an optional Commentary field. The Commentary field allows the analyst to include non-interview data with the project. Depending on whether the contents of the Content Editor is a Code or a Comment, different capabilities are provided.

In the case of Codes, the Commentary field can be included in Word report output. As such, the Commentary field provides the analyst with the capability to include detailed narratives with any Codes. Alternatively the Commentary field can be used for internal purposes, for example, as a means of communicating the theme rationale to other analysts.

In the case of Comments, the Commentary field is strictly for internal use; that is, it cannot be included in Word report output. The primary capability for the Commentary field with Comments is to record field notes or other notes useful to the analyst when engaging in micro-analysis.

Correct recognized spelling errors

If Symphony sees a misspelled word, it will be underlined in red. To correct the word, either edit it directly, or right-click on the word (without selecting it) and select a word from the list of suggestions.

Split the comment into two comments

If a Comment expresses more than one idea, you can split it into two or more Comments. To do so, select the text that you want to move to another Comment, right-click over the selection, then choose "Split Comment". The selected text will be removed from the current Comment, a new Comment will be created, and the Comment Edit form will come up so you can code it.

Duplicate the comment

If you need to code the same comment more than one way, you can do so by creating a duplicate. To duplicate a comment, right-click over the Content Editor and choose Duplicate from the shortcut menu. The Comment form will be invoked, and you can now modify the text without changing the original, or assign a different Code
